We finally made it to a Mardi Gras parade and it was a beautiful day. We met up with a group of friends to all enjoy the parade together. For many of us it was our first time experiencing Mardi Gras. It is truly what people live for down here. It's really a part of their identity. The kids even get school off for 3 days to celebrate. It is much more tame than the New Orleans version and more oriented towards families. You get beads for having cute kids rather than some other things

Will was weighted down with beads. We were told by some more experienced parade goers to bring a shopping bag to put all of our beads in. We made several trips to that shopping bag and kept going back for more. They also throw teddy bears, moon pies, candy, toys, and plastic cups. Will's favorite things were a tiny little bouncy ball and a crocodile. It was fun to see him really getting into it. He was dancing and clapping the whole time.
